Los Angeles Angels hurler Jered Weaver was nearly perfect on Wednesday night as the tall right hander conceded just a walk in the top of the seventh inning to record a no-hitter against the Minnesota Twins in a 9-0 win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Weaver struck out nine to shut out Minnesota in a dominant performance against a lagging club. The no-hitter comes on the heels of Chicago White Sox pitcher Phil Humber's perfect game against the Seattle Mariners on April 21.
"I'm at a loss for words right now. It hasn't kicked in yet," Weaver said. "Thank you for all your support. Couldn't have done it without the defense. The guys were picking me up left and right."
In the top of the second inning, Twins first baseman Chris Parmelee struck out swinging, but was safe at first on a passed ball by catcher Chris Iannetta. Weaver also conceded a walk to Jason Willingham in the seventh.
The Angels' ace threw 121 pitches, 77 for strikes, against a Twins team that is 24th in the Majors in runs. The Twins are currently in last place in the American League Central, with a 6-18 record.
Weaver is off to a excellent start to the season. He has a 4-0 record to go along with a 1.61 earned run average.
Weaver becomes only the third Angels pitcher since 1990 to toss a no-hitter.
Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan still holds the Angels record for most no-hitters for the club, with four.
