Tim Tebow was signed to the New England Patriots by head coach Bill Belichick to play quarterback and while many have speculated that the former New York Jets outcast will play tight end after Aaron Hernandez was arrested for murder and released, that likely will only happen in the virtual world.
Tebow signed a two-year contract with the team and when EA Sports decided to debut some footage from the upcoming installment of the annual Madden franchise, Madden NFL 25, the company showed off the quarterback playing tight end. The footage showed quarterback Tom Brady throwing passes to Tebow at the tight end position against AFC East opponents, including the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills.
Although many speculated before he was signed by the Patriots that Tebow would have to play tight end to make it in the NFL, the Patriots have been clear so far that he will play quarterback. The reason many speculated about tight end with the Patriots came after Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder and released by the team after the death of semi-pro player Odin Lloyd. The 23-year-old star is a versatile player and was considered one of the best young tight ends in the league.
Hernandez is facing life in prison for the crime and now his past has come under scrutiny as well, including his time at Florida and his first couple years in the league. The Patriots will now have to rely even more on Rob Gronkowski this season as he comes back from multiple surgeries that limited him to 11 games last year. Despite missing time with injuries, Gronk still made 55 receptions for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns and now he will be needed more than ever.
Hernandez was given a $40 million contract extension by the team and now he is looking at life in prison after being arrested and released by the Patriots. Gronk had his fourth arm surgery this past offseason and the Patriots will also be bringing Jake Ballard into the fold now that he is back from an ACL injury. Tebow likely won't be catching any passes on the field in real life, but he sure can in Madden.
