Chris Fowler Is The Best Sports Broadcaster On TV (SWR Commentary)

Aug 27, 2013 03:58 PM EDT

The U.S. Open started on Monday in Flushing at the National Tennis Center with some exciting matches that were televised on ESPN and one of the broadcasters getting down on the action was Chris Fowler, who will have a busy week with the grand slam in New York before taking off to Clemson on Saturday to host the debut of College GameDay with his colleagues Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard.

Fowler is considered to be one of the most polished broadcasters in the sports world and one of his best traits is the fact that he can seamlessly move between sports without any dropoff in quality, knowledge or eloquence. Fowler has shown that he is a studio host master while working on college football and he is just as good or even better while working tennis for ESPN as well as soccer coverage when he does that as well. Fowler does some of his best work when broadcasting tennis matches and he is looked at as a very respected member of the media, leading coverage for the Australian Open, Wimbledon, French Open and U.S. Open.

Fowler also has been the host of College GameDay for two decades and he is the perfect host for the group that ESPN has on the show, including Corso. The show has been on the road for quite some time now and no crowd gets to Fowler and things never get out of control while visiting college games. Fowler will be with ESPN through the World Cup next year and the network would be wise to keep him beyond that, especially with the tennis coverage deals they have locked up down the line.

Fowler did his 11th Australian Open earlier this year and that was another time he had to transition quickly from tennis to college football, as he handled work on the BCS national championship game with Alabama and Notre Dame before jetting down under. Fowler will be leading the coverage of the US Open again and things should continue to be stellar.
