The New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles are both fighting to stay in playoff contention but a recent string of losses have hurt both teams. The Yankees and Orioles will both send aces to the mound to try and get a win. For the Yankees, that might not be a good thing.
CC Sabathia will get the start as New York is desperate for their ace to figure out what has hurt his production lately. The Yankees have lost four of six games and are currently 2 1/2 games back from Baltimore, fighting for the third place spot in the AL East. Sabathia is 11-11 with a 4.81 ERA on the season. That is his highest ERA in his 13-year career. His last seven starts have been particularly bad, suffering from a 7.30 ERA while very rarely going past six innings.
This does not help the Yankees' cause. They have lost six of their past eight games against Baltimore. However, they are eight of nine at home. Something will give for the team.
Baltimore is relying on Miguel Gonzalez who is 8-6 on the season with a 3.77 ERA. He could be what the Orioles need to get back on track. Gonzalez is returning to the starting rotation, putting up a 2.27 ERA in his last six starts against New York alone. However, his last two road starts have not ben good. Gonzalez gave away 10 walks in 12 innings over his past two road starts.
Baltimore and New York are fighting for a wild card spot. They are 3 1/2 and five games back from Oakland respectively. The Boston Red Sox sit in first.
