The New York Giants never can seem to get through the preseason without dealing with a serious injury to a key player and after losing Stevie Brown already for the season, Andre Brown now has a broken leg after playing against the New England Patriots.
Brown was being looked at as the starting running back this season with David Wilson and while the break wasn't super serious, it could keep him out for a while. According to ESPN.com, Brown said that he will be back soon after dealing with the fracture, but now the team must decide whether to put him on return IR or to keep him on the active roster despite the fact that he will not play, a very tough decision as cuts are looming.
The Giants have Da'Rel Scott, Ryan Torain and Michael Cox on the roster, but it is likely that at least one will go and each could be an interesting option to handcuff with David Wilson in deeper leagues until Brown returns from his injury. Last season he rushed for 385 yards and eight touchdowns on 73 carries and he was expected to be even more of a producer this season. Brown said the break was not too bad and now he joins a list with David Diehl, Victor Cruz, Brown as well as David Bass as players dealing with injuries.
The Giants could be a playoff team this season, but they will need a strong running game and that was centered around Brown. Brown made the most of his playing time before getting hurt, leading the Giants with eight touchdowns while rushing for 385 yards on 73 carries last season. With Ahmad Bradshaw hurt, he started his first-career game against the Panthers, rushing for a career-high 113 yards on 20 carries to go with two rushing touchdowns. He also added three receptions for 17 yards in the game as well and proved to be a solid receiver out of the backfield.
