The sports world will rage on despite the fact that it is a national holiday on Monday with Labor Day and there are plenty of exciting games on, including in Major League baseball, world soccer, US Open Tennis as well as college football.
The baseball playoff races are continuing to heat up as the schedule moves into September and the NL Central, AL East and the wild card races are shaping up to be as exciting as ever. On Monday a number of new series will start up and all 30 teams are playing in baseball, including a crucial series in the American League wild card race with the Baltimore Orioles visiting the Cleveland Indians. The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics are opening their series in California, while the St. Louis Cardinals are visiting their division rivals in the Cincinnati Reds, who appear playoff bound as well.
The Chicago White Sox are visiting the New York Yankees and for Derek Jeter and company to have any chance at the playoffs, they must sweep the series. Detroit is coming to Fenway Park for a series with the Red Sox and depending on what happens with the Tigers, the Rays and Orioles could gain some ground. Other games on the schedule include Yasiel Puig and the Dodgers going to Colorado, while the Rays will visit Mike Trout and the Angels.
The Marlins and the Cubs are playing a series for worst in the NL, while Minnesota and Houston are doing the same in the AL. The Seattle Mariners are playing the Royals in Kansas City and KC still has a chance to stay in the playoff race if they play well against the M's. The Nationals and the Phillies are playing in the NL East, while the Giants and Padres are playing on the West coast. The Blue Jays and Diamondbacks will be playing an interleague series, while the Mets and Braves will play an afternoon game and so will the Pirates and the Brewers.
The U.S. Open will have some very big matches, including the women's singles fourth round and the men's singles third round, including Roger Federer playing Tommy Robredo. Number two seed Rafael Nadal will play Philipp Kohlschreiber after he defeated John Isner to advance and other matches include David Ferrer as well as Richard Gasquet. On the women's side Ana Ivanovic and Victoria Azarenka will play, while Alison Riske is also in action.
Some soccer includes the Italian Serie B, Greek Super League, and French Ligue 2
