Timberwolves Rumors: J.J. Barea Open For Dallas Mavericks Return In Free Agency After Minnesota Deal Up

The Dallas Mavericks and JJ Barea won a championship together, but after becoming a free agent the point guard opted to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but that doesn't mean the two sides won't reunite in the future.

According to Pro Basketball Talk, Barea is signed with the team for the next two years, but after his contract is up he could decide to come back to Dallas. In an article from ESPN Deportes, Barea said that he has a great relationship with Cuban and that he would be open to a return to the team as a free agent when his contract is up in 2014.

The report says that earlier in the offseason there was talk of Barea heading back to Dallas in a trade, but it never moved further than just talk. "When you suggest the possibility of going beyond the regular season in 2014, Barea perks up. It's something he would like to do with the Timberwolves. In spite of this, Barea doesn't close the door on the Mavs, who at the beginning of the summer sounded as if they were trying to once again retain his services. He has strong rapport with the Dallas owner.

"It's a great relationship with Mark Cuban. If they want to bring me back to Dallas, I am very [good] with it," he said. "But I'm happy in Minnesota. They're the ones that wanted me there, the ones that signed me for four years, so until they decide to trade me, I'm going to give them all my effort in the games."
