Tim Tebow continues to hear the word "no". He has been turned down by practically every NFL team. Most recently, he was let go by the New England Patriots after being signed as a potential backup quarterback to Tom Brady. This comes after being released by the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. So where does the quarterback land now? There is not an NFL team calling his number right and the CFL apparently will not be calling either.
At one point, it was rumored that the Montreal Alouettes would be interested in bringing on Tebow. The team holds negotiating rights to the quarterback, but is not interested in signing him anytime soon.
"We've never had a conversation with him or his representation. It's all for talk and there's nothing there, there's no substance to it," Alouettes general manager and interim coach Jim Popp told CBC.ca.
While he certainly did not close the door on the possibility of Tebow ever joining the roster, he made it clear the team was not about to start reaching out to him anytime soon. The only way Tebow is signing on with the team is if his representation reaches out first.
At one point, Popp had said Tebow was more than welcome to come compete for a backup spot to starter Anthony Calvillo. Currently, Troy Smith, Josh Neiswander and Tanner Marsh are on the roster for the Alouettes. Tebow continues to remain adamant that he will player quarterback in the NFL, but that might no longer be an option.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft is certainly rooting for Tebow to make his dream come true. While speaking with CBS This Morning, Kraft noted that he was really rooting for Tebow to make the final roster with the Patriots, but things just did not work out. The Patriots have only carried three quarterbacks on the roster once in the past five years, meaning history was simply working against Tebow.
"And life takes funny turns, so no one knows what's going to happen in the future, but whatever he does I know he's going to be a great success off the field and I'm rooting for him to get his opportunity on the field as well," Kraft said.
Kraft certainly did not rule out a return for Tebow. Injuries happen in this league and both Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick liked the quarterback's locker room presence, just not his productivity on the field. Tebow's biggest issue was consistency with the Patriots. For every good pass he made, there were four thrown into the dirt beforehand.
At this point, all signs point to Tebow not playing football anywhere anytime soon. A change of positions might work in his favor since playing quarterback is not. If all else fails, a career in broadcast could work out well.
