Bart Scott is now a member of the media and free to talk about anything that he wants. The former New York Jets linebacker has never held back his thoughts in the past and he is certainly is not about to start now that he has a nationwide platform to stand on. As Scott transitions into becoming a member of the CBS pre-game show, he is speaking out on his time in the NFL and what he truly thinks of the media.
While speaking on the "Boomer & Carton" radio show, Scott spoke about his time with the Jets and how they have become one of the most highly publicized teams in the league. At one point, Scott had planned on boycotting the media for the way they treated the Jets football team. He is bashing the team's locker room, but not the players inside it.
"In that locker room, there's a bunch of jerks in there," Scott said. "There's a lot of people that go about business the wrong way. I didn't want to deal with that, and I thought, let's not deal with them. You can't not deal with them and talk to other media because they'll put up a complaint against you. So the best thing was just to go against everybody, and the good kind of get bottled in with the bad."
Scott notes that many of the reporters that come into the locker room have some sort of agenda and are simply just trying to make a splash in the headlines. As Scott says, they want to "be the next Adam Schefter or he wants to be the next big-time reporter." Scott decided to attempt to avoid such reporters during his time in the league and now he will likely be one of the most honest and straightforward analysts on television.
He showed off some of that honesty when talking about the New York Jets quarterback injury. At this moment, Mark Sanchez is out with an injury, leaving rookie Geno Smith to make the move as the starter for Week One.
"Let's be honest, if Mark can't go, he's putting his future as a starter in the NFL in jeopardy. If Geno gets in there, he's going to get a free pass because he's a young quarterback," Scott said.
Scott had once said he supports Sanchez as the team's starting quarterback, noting his experience and proven success make him the better option over a rookie. However, now that the veteran is unable to practice all week, Smith is the best the team has. Scott believes the biggest reason Sanchez has failed over the past two seasons if because the Jets continue to take wide receivers away from him. Ryan is not helping the quarterback by eliminating his weapons.
Scott also touched on controversies like Tim Tebow. The linebacker understood what the team was trying to accomplish when they signed Tebow last year, but things never really worked out. The team attempted to move towards a read-option offense and the linebacker recognizes that it failed miserably.
