Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Moyes and Woodward Failed in Moves for Khedira and Sneijder, But Herrera and Baines Could Sign in January

Manchester United failed in a bid to land Sami Khedira from Real Madrid on deadline day, while Galatasaray claimed they rejected an offer for Netherlands midfielder Weslesy Sneijder.

United have been ridiculed for the manner in which they conducted their transfer business this summer, eventually only signing Marouane Fellaini from Everton right at the end, and that too for £4 million ($6.2 million) more than his release clause of £23.5 million ($36.5 million) which expired at the end of July.

Desperate for a midfielder of quality, after refusing to match Ander Herrera's buyout clause of £30.5 million ($47.4 million), David Moyes and the much-maligned Ed Woodward made a £34 million ($52.9 million) offer for Khedira, which was rejected outright by Real Madrid.

Speaking to reporters at Germany's national team camp, Khedira revealed the details of the offer and said he was happy to see Real Madrid refuse to even consider selling him.

"The club turned down the offer and that was it," he said.

"We didn't really have the chance to discuss it.

"I had a longer chat with (Real manager) Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I'd stay at Real.

"We (players) don't have any influence in the high transfer fees. Real refused the offer of Manchester United and I'm happy with that."

Meanwhile, Galatasaray also revealed an indirect bid for Sneijder, which was again rejected.

"Sneijder received an indirect offer from Manchester United two weeks ago but it was not accepted," Galatasaray sporting coordinator Bulunt Tulun told Milliyet.

"There are several clubs that want him but just like we can't let go of (striker) Burak (Yilmaz) we also have to keep hold of Sneijder."

However, despite failing in bids this summer, Moyes is apparently determined to bring in the likes of Leighton Baines, another player for whom an offer was rejected on deadline day, and Herrera during the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, Moyes is aware of the criticism which United have had to endure this summer, and wants to set things right by signing both Baines and Herrera when the transfer window opens at the beginning of next year.
