The Aaron Hernandez murder case involving the death of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd will continue on Friday in superior court in Massachusetts, but ahead of that arraignment, the former tight end has tried to delay a separate suit involving an incident in Florida.
According to ESPN.com, Hernandez and his legal team are attempting to delay proceedings from a shooting incident in Florida until after the murder charges in the Lloyd case in Massachusetts are finished. The "postponement request" was filed after the national holiday on Monday and it stated that it wouldn't be proper or fair to Hernandez to allow the lawsuit to go on right now as he is dealing with a murder case. Hernandez has pled not guilty in the death of Odin Lloyd and he has been held in jail since June on first degree murder charges.
Hernandez is connected to Lloyd through his girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins, as her sister was reportedly dating Lloyd at the time of his death. The Bradley lawsuit says that Hernandez was involved in a shooting incident that left a friend, Alexander Bradley, with injuries to his eye after being shot in the face and left outside a club by Hernandez. Bradley wants $100,000 in damages in the case and reports from the Boston Globe also have the two getting into an incident when Bradley was arrested for drunk driving while Hernandez was in the passenger seat.
Hernandez will be in jail on Friday for his arraignment in superior court and he stands accused of orchestrating the murder of Lloyd, over which lawyers say was a dispute at a nightclub. Lloyd's body was found less than a mile from Hernandez's home in North Attleboro and he is tied to the crime through text messages, shell casings and video surveillance that showed him with a gun. Hernandez has also been linked to a double murder from Boston last July, although police have not officially connected him to the crime, although a car thought to be used in the shooting was found at his uncle's home. Two men in Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz are also in custody in connection with Lloyd's death.
