Tim Tebow was released by the New England Patriots after a summer of training camp, workouts and the preseason, but now that the NFL season is starting, he is a free agent again and has an uncertain NFL future ahead of him.
Another player with Tebow's cult-like following is Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel and depending on what happens with him the rest of this season, he could be facing some similar issues that Tebow is. Tebow is out of the NFL right now because he can't consistently be an accurate quarterback and while the Patriots took a chance on him, other teams may be more reluctant. While Manziel throws better than Tebow, he could face similar issues due to his size.
Tebow is a bigger player than Manziel and while the NFL is moving to more of a rushing quarterback, he could slip due to his size in the NFL draft but also because of his maturity. After winning the Heisman there was plenty in the media about Manziel partying and going out to clubs and then after the Manning football camp incident and autograph scandal there was the opening game of the season. The Aggies played against Rice and Manziel had to sit out the first half and then after that while throwing three touchdowns, he was hit with a an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after throwing a score.
Coach Kevin Sumlin said that Manziel was disciplined, but that wasn't the only incident in the game, as he also taunted Rice with a "money" sign and something having to do with autographs and now the team heads into week 2 with a game against Alabama looming the following week. Manziel obviously has tons of skills after winning the Heisman last year and setting SEC records, but if he doesn't shape up, his NFL career could be as short as Tebow's.
