The Men's Singles quartefinals at the 2013 U.S. Open continues with Rafael Nadal (2) hitting the court as the Spaniard will attempt to continue dominating the sport. Watch the action, free online, after Victoria Azarenka's matchup in the Women's Singles quarterfinals.
For Nadal, the goal is a second grand slam title in 2013 and his second career U.S. Open title. So far, so good. He was challenged in his last match against Philipp Kolschreiber as the two went four sets. The German won the first set, but it was all Nadal from then on. He wrapped up the meeting 6(4)-7(7), 6-4, 6-3, 6-1.
Prior to his fourth round victory over Kohlschreiber, Nadal crushed Ivan Doig in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. In the second round, his victim became the Brazilian, Rogerio Dutra Silva, who only won a total of three games in their three sets played. The American, Ryan Harrison was the first to fall back in the opening round of the Men's Singles tournament. He put up an early fight, but then fell in straight sets. So keep count, that's 12 of 13 sets won for the Spaniard, Men's Singles' hottest player.
Nadal will face off against Tommy Robredo, the 19th seed of the tournament. Robredo hasn't had the strongest performances in the tournament, but he eliminated one of the game's favorite, Roger Federer in the fourth round. Does this mean we are witnessing the decline of one of the game's best? Anyways, back to Robredo. The bad news about facing Nadal in the quarters is that the 31-year-old has never defeated his fellow Spaniard. The two last met in Paris, but this was over four years ago.
Is Nadal still way better than Robredo or can Robredo use the momentum from his last victory to advance to the semifinals for the first time in his career?
