The Pittsburgh Pirates had one of the longest streaks in sports and it wasn't a good one, as the team did not have a winning season for 20 years, but all that is over now and the playoffs are the destination for the team in 2013.
Travis Snider led the team to a 4-3 win over the Brewers on Tuesday night, hitting a home run to get the victory and Andrew McCutcheon added one as well and now the team is over .500 for the first time since 1992 this late in the season and now the streak is over and the playoff streak is next. The family of Roberto Clemente had the win dedicated to them and manager Clint Hurdle said the team is ready to move past the streak and into the playoffs.
Clemente had 3,000 hits to end his career and as the greatest player in Pirates history, the team was doing it with him in mind. The team is now one game up in the NL central and they are battling with the Cardinals and Reds as they try to make the playoffs as the division winner or one of the two wild cards.
"The one family I'm happy for is the Clemente family," manager Clint Hurdle said to ESPN.com. "They told me earlier in the season that we can't have 21 losing seasons, that we've got to find a way to not have Roberto's number tied to that. I told them we'd find a way to take care of that. It's been taken care of."
