The 2014 NBA free agency seems already set to be filled with more drama than the free agency period of 2013, as big named superstars have been rumored to be on their way to new teams come the start of the 2014-15 season.
One of the biggest rumors out there are the possibly combination of New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony joining forces with Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers. The rumors stem from the two's good relationship off the court, and now will only be fueled more by the good , relationship their wives have with each other as well.
Vanessa Bryant and La La Anthony recently had dinner together in West Los Angeles and neither of their husbands were in attendance.
Although this might just be a casual dinner outing between friends, you can't help but to thing that this could potentially help the Lakers land Anthony after this season. If Vanessa were to find a way to convince La La that the Lakers and Los Angeles would be the best landing destination for Anthony and his family, the Lakers could potentially have a shot at getting Carmelo to skip town out of New York.
It's a bit of a long shot, however, a friendship between the wives could benefit the Lakers' pitch.
If Anthony opts out of N.Y. he would lose a significant amount of money. If he inks another deal with another team, he can sign a four-year contract worth $95,897,372, according to calculations by ESPN salary-cap expert Larry Coon. If Anthony opts out and re-signs with the Knicks, he can sign a five-year contract worth $129,135,806. That's a difference of $33,238,434.
