The list of NFL athletes warning Johnny Manziel about his current behavior continues to grow by the day. Just last week, former Chicago Bear and current Fox Sports 1 analyst Brian Urlacher called the Heisman winner a punk after his on-the-field behavior during Saturday's win against Rice. Now, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is warning the Texas A&M star that actions can come back to haunt him.
During an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, Brady was asked what he thought of the showboating gestures by Manziel this past weekend. The quarterback was seen making money gestures after throwing a touchdown pass and at one point was flagged for taunting after trash talking with a Rice defender. This was after he served a one-half suspension for an NCAA investigation over allegedly accepting benefits over autograph signings.
Host Joe Kernen asked Brady about the quarterback and what he thought in terms of flaunting after a big play was made. Brady responded saying, "if you're a turd, it's going to come back to you."
"I get pretty emotional. I have a lot of respect for the teammates, for my teammates, for my organization, and certainly for other guys in the NFL. There's not a guy playing in the NFL who hasn't earned the right to be here, and who isn't supremely talented. He's probably been the best athlete in his high school class, in his elementary school class. So when you look across the ball you have respect for those guys, and you treat them with respect because football's a physical game. And as RKK (Patriots owner Robert Kraft) would say, if you're a turd, it's going to come back to you."
Brady's response comes after multiple people have spoken out against Manziel and his behavior. The quarterback had an offseason filled with drama including questions regarding courtside tickets, Twitter remarks and ignoring the discipline of his head coach. All the media reports have not appeared to hurt Manziel's play on the field.
Brady's comments differ from that of another Super Bowl winning quarterback, Joe Flacco. The Ravens quarterback admitted that Manziel was quickly becoming his favorite player in college football and he did not find anything wrong with what he was doing. To each his own, right?
