The Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers go head-to-head in their NFL season openers as Week 1 has finally arrived. Watch the action online if you can't view it on your televisions as one of the league's best teams takes the field at 1 p.m. ET.
The Panthers are not the team we are referring to, although, their defense has a chance to heavily disrupt the Seahawks' offensive flow. The Panthers' turnover ratio as +8 in their four games this preseason, which is a positive. However, their stagnant offense is nothing to look forward to, especially when facing the most balanced team in this year's preseason.
The Seahawks were almost unstoppable on both ends of the ball. Their defense was impenetrable, ranking third in total yards allowed (239), fourth in passing yards (151) and seventh in rushing yards per game (87.8). Further worrying the Panthers, the Seahawks only gave up 36 points during the preseason, the least of any team, followed by the San Francisco 49ers, their division rivals.
The Panthers finished ninth, allowing 17 points per game during the preseason, which isn't a bad number. Their offense had issues getting in the end zone, but their defense finished with 44 percent of the team's trips to the end zone. The Panthers' offense scored five touchdowns, while the defense wound up in the end zone four times in the preseason.
The Seahawks had no trouble being balanced. Their offense scored 10 touchdowns, their defense finished with one. Their defense allowed only three total touchdowns and 57 first downs.
Can the Seahawks remain this active during the regular season? Can the Panthers be half the team on defense that they were during the preseason?
