Roddy White has no time for fantasy football. The Atlanta Falcons wide receiver was likely taken by plenty of team owners this year as he continuously puts up big numbers each year. The lead receiver has only benefited by the weapons added by the Falcons making him an easy pick. However, after suffering a high ankle sprain during the preseason, White was a non-factor in the Falcons' loss to the New Orleans Saints, leaving many fantasy owners upset.
White may be shy in front of the camera, but on Twitter he rarely holds back. The wide receiver has found himself in hot water before for comments made on the social media site and Sunday night was no different. White finished off his two catches for 19 yards performance with a little message for all the fantasy owners criticizing his lack of productivity. When White was made active for the game, many assumed he be would his normal self on the field, except that he was not.
"No I can't give out an injury report before the game. I play real football and it would be stupid to tip the other team off and say I'm hurt," White tweeted. The Falcons wide receiver reminded fantasy owners that he plays actual football and is not concerned over something that has little impact towards him.
White's injury was originally reported as not severe and a low ankle sprain. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter says the injury is actually a high ankle sprain and doctors told White it could keep him sidelined for a month. The team is insisting that is not true. White was noticeably different during the game. He struggled to make cuts and was simply used a decoy on the field.
"Yeah. It's hard to cut. It's hard to do just about everything at the position. No excuses. When you go out there, you try to win," White said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "It will be maybe a few more weeks before I can go out there and be myself. They wanted me in certain areas to do certain things so that they couldn't just bracket guys. That's what we did."
The Falcons could possibly have the best receiving corps in the league when everyone is healthy. White, Julio Jones, Harry Douglas and Tony Gonzalez create one scary group, but when one player is unhealthy it throws the entire dynamic off.
White was primarily a decoy on Sunday, recording just two catches for 19 yards. Atlanta attempted to create a smokescreen by putting White out on the field, but his ankle injury fooled no one. That of course increased the attention around Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez, leaving No. 3 Harry Douglas as the primary target.
Fantasy owners should beware that White will be hampered by this injury for weeks to come. Plan starters accordingly.
