The Pittsburgh Steelers lost their first home game in September for the first time under head coach Mike Tomlin and after the way the offense looked on Sunday, the team desperately needs running back Le'Veon Bell to return from his foot injury and that is why they signed aback Jonathan Dwyer this week.
The Steelers did not look good at all on offense in the loss to the Titans and the team rushed for just 32 yards after working on putting a focus on the running game in the offseason. The team was hampered by a preseason injury to Bell and that came back to bite them on Sunday, as Isaac Redman and Felix Jones did not get the job done.
The team is also dealing with injuries in the running game and that spurred the signing of Dwyer as well, as Larod Stephens-Howling was lost to an injury after leading the team in rushing and Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey was also lost for the season, sending the offensive line in flux heading forward into Week 2.
According to ESPN.com, Stephens-Howling injured his knee and Pouncey tore his ACL and MCL and now is lost for the season after being placed on injured reserve. The offensive line was already struggling before he was injured and now the team has to try and turn around the season despite going down with some very integral injuries. The team also lost Larry Foote to an injury and now the team has to try and hold tight as they prepare for the Bengals on Monday night football.
Bell has said that he was hoping to return in Week 2 after avoiding foot surgery and the extra day of rest might be just what he needs to get back on the field. According to ESPN.com, the team also signed Jonathan Dwyer to help in the rushing game after releasing him in the preseason, as they now rank 31st in the league with just 32 yards on the ground. Last season Dwyer led the Steelers in rushing and scored two touchdowns and now Tomlin may start him instead of using Felix Jones, who was not very good to start after being acquired in a trade in the preseason.
