The New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills in a thrilling game on Sunday with a last second field goal from Stephen Gostkowski and while Tom Brady got the last laugh on the field, the fans in Buffalo got the first laugh in the stands, as a group was seen wearing orange jumpsuits with the name and number of Hernandez on the back.
Photos were posted to Twitter of the fans and while it obviously didn't have an effect on the field, it was a creative way for some fans to express themselves. Brady was great when it mattered at the end of the game and Danny Amendola did his best Wes Welker impression to give the Patriots a victory to open the season. The fact that Hernandez was not on the field was noticeable since Rob Gronkowski was also out with an injury and the Patriots offense worked accordingly, as tight end Zach Sudfeld did not make a catch in the game. Sudfeld is dealing with a hamstring issue and likely will not play on Thursday against the Jets and that could mean another big game for Amendola if he is okay after tweaking his groin.
Hernandez is currently in jail on first degree murder charges after the body of Odin Lloyd was found less than a mile from his home and now that he has been arraigned in superior court, he could face a trial date next fall. Hernandez had been considered one of the best young tight ends in the league along with Gronkowski, but after the murder charge came up and he was arrested, the team released him that day.
