The Chicago Bulls are heading into a very important season as Derrick Rose returns from injury and as the team starts working on a Luol Deng contract extension, some things could be up in the air and heading into training camp the team will be looking to play its best for the coming season.
The team still has open spots on their roster heading into training camp and the preseason and now according to Pro Basketball Talk, Mike James is getting an invite to camp and the report says that he has a chance to make the team. In a Twitter post, CSNBullsInsider wrote that James has the chance to make the roster despite having a number of players at his position, including Rose and Kirk Hinrich. Jimmy Butler is developing into a very nice player and James could slide in on the bench and play a solid reserve role.
James played in 11 games in the 2011-12 season with the Bulls and the 38-year-old has some skills that the team could utilize, especially after adding Mike Dunleavy in the offseason. James has experience in the D-League and if he can show that he can play with the likes of Rose and Deng, he could end up making the team as an end of the bench type player.
He averaged just under five points for the team when he played and last year he was with the Dallas Mavericks and appeared in 45 games, averaging just under 20 minutes and just over six points per game. Last season the Bulls made it through to the second round of the playoffs despite not having Rose and the team was able to pull out a win against the eventual champion Miami Heat. The early series against the Brooklyn Nets was one of the most entertaining of the postseason and James could be a solid option for the team on the roster.
