The NFL season and the fantasy football season are now in full swing and with teams around the league looking for the best players to use on Sunday in fantasy, some rookie names could break out big, including players like Kenbrell Thompkins, Cordarrelle Patterson, DeAndre Hopkins, Tavon Austin, Robert Woods and Keenan Allen as well as Ace Sanders on the Jags.
The best rookie wideout heading into Week 1 looked like Tavon Austin and while he didn't have a fantastic game, the fact that he was targeted seven times is promising for the young a speedster and for the Rams overall. Austin was taken out of West Virginia where he played with Geno Smith and as a top 10 selection he will be looked at as a game changing player for Jeff Fisher. Austin has blazing speed and the team is hoping that he could turn into a Percy Harvin type player and that type of speed could open things up in the offense from Sam Bradford and Chris Givens.
Austin finished week one with seven targets, six receptions for 41 yards and he averaged just under seven yards per catch. As he gets more comfortable in the offense Austin could develop into a big play threat for the team and now that Daryl Richardson is at running back, the offense could get more productive after defeating the Cardinals in Week 1. Austin has speed that no player on the Rams has and against the Falcons this week the team could exploit that.
Thompkins was also thought of as a prime fantasy sleeper heading into Week 1and while his numbers weren't that great, he still is a very promising option going forward. The Patriots were high on him in the preseason and on top of that, the team is playing without wide receiver Danny Amendola in Week 2 after he injured his groin and that could make Thompkins a very good option for fantasy owners.
During the preseason he led the team with 15 catches and 166 yards and while he only had four catches nop the day from Brady for 42 yards, he was targeted 14 times and that means the quarterback trusts him enough and that could mean numbers on Thursday. The Jets pulled out a win at home on Sunday, but with a road game coming and a short week on Thursday night, he could put up some nice numbers. Aaron Dobson should also factor into things, but Thompkins is looking like the best bet due to his size and targets from Brady.
DeAndre Hopkins could be a huge sleeper after making five catches for 66 yards in a win over the Chargers for the Texans and with Andre Johnson getting most of the attention, he could be open quite a bit. While his debut wasn't stellar, he was targeted six times and he also had a 30 yard play and could be a big play scoring option for the Texans moving forward. Patterson did not have a great game either, but after making just one catch in Week 1, expect him to get plenty more looks going forward.
