Roddy White has been having a hard time with fantasy football owners this season. The wide receiver has been suffering from a high ankle sprain acquired in the preseason and was a non-factor in the Atlanta Falcons' loss to the New Orleans Saints. Naturally fantasy owners were not too happy over the lack of production and White has a message for them, he does not care.
The wide receiver is a fantasy favorite. Along with Julio Jones, White is Matt Ryan's favorite target. The quarterback often links up with White who is known to get plenty of yards after the catch and racks up the touchdowns by the end of the year. However, he did not look like that kind of player on Sunday. White had two catches for 19 yards, noticeably struggling while being primarily used as a decoy on the field. Now, White is lashing back out on Twitter after fantasy owners criticized the wide receiver for hiding the severity of his injury.
"As far as fantasy if I don't participate in practice than don't start me it's a red flag. No I can't give out an injury report before the game. I play real football and it would be stupid to tip the other off and say I'm hurt," White tweeted.
White could be headed for injured reserve if his ankle shows no signs of improving. On Wednesday, NFL sources reported the Falcons worked out three veteran receivers as a backup plan to White. Lavelle Hawkins, Mohamed Massaquoi and Courtney Roby were present at team facilities. None of the free agents who tried out have ever been overwhelmingly great in the league, but could serve as good depth for the team. Hawkins has 771 career receiving yards. Massaquoi underwhelmed with the Browns and was most recently released by the Jets. Roby is a former Saints player with 332 yards.
White is currently in the midst of a 129-game streak of consecutive starts. Ideally the veteran would not like to break the streak, but he might not have another option. Head coach Mike Smith has made no comments about the future of White's ankle injury and what impact it may have over the next few weeks. Working out the free agents shows things may be more serious than the Falcons are ready to let on.
