Although Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski isn't ready to commit to Jason Campbell or Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback going into Week 3, it would appear he'll have no choice as starter Brandon Weeden will likely be sidelined Sunday with a sprained right thumb.
Weeden underwent an MRI to his thumb on Monday after suffering the injury during the fourth quarter of the Browns' 14-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
As of now it wouldn't be a surprise if Weeden was ruled out in the upcoming game against the Minnesota Vikings, but that hasn't happened yet due to the Browns curiosity to how Weeden will react to his treatment.
"We're really waiting on Brandon to kind of see where he's at and make the determination in the next few days with Brandon and we'll go from there" Chudzinski said. "I'm going to keep all our options open right now. Obviously we have two options and that's Jason and Brian both.
"I'm confident in all the guys that we have. We'll put the guy out there that I feel like is going to give us the best chance on Sunday if it's not Brandon."
Weeden, the 22nd overall pick of last year's draft, suffered the injury when he smacked his throwing hand against a helmet in the fourth quarter on Sunday. He remained in the game for one more play and was replaced by Campbell for the next possession.
"It was tough to put pressure on the ball" Weeden said Sunday after the game while wearing a black brace on his right hand. "It hurts. Doesn't feel too good."
