Floyd Mayweather won his boxing match on Saturday night against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, but on Monday he apologized for his behavior after posting something to social media that mocked Oscar De La Hoya for missing the fight to enter a rehabilitation center.
According to ESPN.com, De La Hoya, who helped to promote the fight through his Golden Boy Promotions, missed the fight on Saturday after deciding to enter into rehab for issues with substance abuse. Following his win against Alvarez, Mayweather posted something to his social media account on Instagram that disparaged the promoter.
According to the LA Times, Mayweather posted something on Instagram that include a picture of De La Hoya with the words "MEANWHILE IN REHAB", while the caption for the post said: "OSCAR: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint I was high."
Following the move and the report, Mayweather came out to apologize and said that it was not posted by him and he did not "authorize" anyone to do it. He also said that he supports the boxer during his time in rehab and that he apologizes to him and his family. Mayweather is now still undefeated in his career with 45-0 record and that came after his victory on Saturday, which was almost by unanimous decision.
His statement: "It's unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post," Mayweather said in a statement posted on his official website and to his Instagram account. "As I clearly stated during my fight week and again in the post-fight press conference, I completely support Oscar De La Hoya and his family during this difficult time in his life. I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction.
"I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting. I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post. I have no ill-will towards anyone."
