The New York Mets have had another terrible season and as September starts to move into October and the schedule gets closer to ending, the team has decided to shake things up for TV viewers on Tuesday night with some comedy, as lifelong Mets fan and comedian Jerry Seinfeld will join the broadcast against the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field.
The team will have the super fan in the booth on Tuesday night, as Seinfeld will join Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling as they call the game and he will be giving analysis as the game goes on. Seinfeld has been in the booth before for a game and since the team is over 15 games out of the lead for the NL East, the team felt it was the perfect time. Seinfeld has previous experience broadcasting the games with the crew and now he will get another chance.

The Mets have not had much success at all this season after going just 67-82 into Tuesday, but one thing that was a constant entertainment was watching Matt Harvey pitched, but all that obviously went bad after he came down with an injury and possibly will have to face Tommy John surgery. Harvey has been the best player for the Mets this season and he was a Cy Young candidate at one point before coming down with the injury.
Many have hoped that Harvey would try to avoid having surgery so there was a chance he could pitch next season, as having Tommy John surgery will likely keep him for the entire 2014 campaign. The team are hoping that Harvey can avoid it and Harvey has said that he will try and do that. According to ESPN.com, Harvey spoke with Dr. James Andrews, the superstar athletic surgeon who has worked on many top athletes and after speaking with him and getting a second opinion, Harvey has decided to give the rehab a try before making any final decisions.
Harvey said that due to the timing of his injury he can look at how rehab works before deciding on Tommy John surgery, as he could get the surgery later in the offseason and still could be on track for a 2015 return. Harvey is the next great hope for the Mets and he was looking like a lock for the Cy Young, or at least being a favorite after he dealt with some tightness in his elbow. The Mets think they will not have Harvey for next season and that is a big blow, as the team is excited about their young pitching staff and feels that a competitive team is just a couple years away.
Harvey said that he spoke to a number of pitchers that have had the same injury and asked for advice and now he will try the rehab before deciding whether or not to get surgery. The Mets are also dealing with the loss of David Wright, likely their best offensive player and he has been out since early August while dealing with a hamstring issue. The team wants Wright back and he is expected to join the lineup over the next week.
Wright signed an extension in the offseason and has been the steady rock for the Mets all these years. Wright was having a very solid season before getting hurt, as he was hitting .309 on the year with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs while playing in 105 games and he also has scored 60 runs before getting injured. The team hopes to have him back before the schedule ends and he could be a great help to a team that ranks 23rd in the league in runs and 28th in batting average.
