The Kansas City Chiefs meet the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3's Thursday Night Football matchup. The big story behind this meeting is Andy Reid's return to Philly, but at the end of the day, both teams will only focus on beating each other. Who will finish on top? Check out predictions for the Chiefs vs. Eagles.
The Eagles are probably the favorite in this matchup. Their offense has proven functional, but the Eagles have lived and died by the sword. While time was on their side in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, the Eagles were not able to put away the San Diego Chargers in Week 2. The Eagles were up big against the Redskins, but their division rival mounted a comeback and just fell short, losing 33-27. The Chargers completed their rally, beating the Eagles 33-30.
If there's a team that can teach a few things about defense, it's the Chiefs. They are the underdog, though they are undefeated in 2013. They are second in the league across the board; points, total yards and rushing yards allowed. Their secondary has done a great job too, allowing an average of 194 passing yards per game.
Though these stats look amazing on paper, they are from games against the unbalanced Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 and the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys' running game is mediocre at best. The Eagles are above average on offense. Michael Vick has over 600 yards passing with four touchdowns and he's rushed for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Then there's LeSean McCoy, who is off to a torrid start in 2013. He has over 350 yards of total offense with a touchdown. The Eagles are a balanced team that can pound the ball past any defense and tire the opposition.
The Eagles will be the Chiefs' first true challenge of the season. Kansas City can, without a doubt, also run up the scoreboard, but after their inability to score more than 20 points against the Cowboys, chances are their offense will not be able to keep up with the Eagles'
Predictions: It's pretty simple. If the Chiefs' defense cannot make early stops, then the Eagles will once again build a huge lead and put the game on their defense's hands. Look for the Eagles to score early and often in this one. Reid was in Philly. He is not there anymore. The Eagles are a different team, coached under a different system. Chip Kelly has wiped out any previous tendencies as the Eagles are finally the team many expected them to be on offense.
Final Score: 29-19 Eagles
