The San Diego Chargers are 1-1 this season under new head coach Mike McCoy and with the Tennessee Titans next on the schedule, the team is dealing with some injury shuffling on the roster, as Malcom Floyd will be out for Week 3, while rookie linebacker Manti Te'o is returning for his first regular season action.
According to ESPN.com, Te'o will be back in action on Sunday for the game against the Titans and it is at a good time for the Chargers, as they have been struggling at the second level through two games this year. The team lost a heartbreaker of a game in Week 1 against the Houston Texans 31-28 after a furious comeback and then they had a heartbreaker again, this time on the other side, as they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 33-30 in Week 2 with a great game from Philip Rivers.
Te'o is cleared to practice with the team after dealing with a foot injury from the preseason and now he is back working out after missing action since back in August. Te'o was injured in the first game for the Chargers in the preseason and during that time Bront Bird started for him and now that he returns, the defense should get a significant boost up the middle.
Te'o was taken by the Chargers in the draft following his strange girlfriend hoax scandal and now he will be able to play against the Titans in Week 3.Te'o missed the opening game of the season against the Chargers and now he gets the chance to get some real NFL action on Sunday as long as he has no setbacks with his foot. The team sure could use him, as the Chargers are ranked 32nd in the league in passing yards allowed per game on defense and are ranked 21st in rushing through two games with over 104 yards allowed per game.
Rivers had an amazing game with over 400 yards passing against the Eagles, but the team lost a big playmaker in Malcom Floyd, as he hurt his neck and will be out for the game against the Titans. Floyd was evaluated after the game and the injury was less serious than first speculated, as he had to be taken off of the field on a stretcher. The team is already dealing with injuries at the position, as Danario Alexander was lost for the year in the preseason. The team has Eddie royal, who already has five TD grabs, as well as rookie Keenan Allen and Vincent Brown to step up.
McCoy did not give an exact timetable for his return but said that he would continue to be evaluated. The Chargers have a tough schedule this season especially in the back half and the next game after the Titans will be a home game against the Dallas Cowboys before playing the Oakland Raiders. The team then will play against the Colts on Monday night football on the road and then has Jacksonville before their bye in Week 8.
The second half schedule isn't much better, as the team has the Redskins and the Broncos to start coming out of the bye before playing the Dolphins and Chiefs on the road. The team then has the Bengals and Giants at home and then plays Denver, Oakland and Kansas City against to finish the season.
