Watch the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks free online as ESPN brings you the live stream at 10 p.m. ET. The entire baseball world will freeze, for at least the final minutes of this game, if the Dodgers are winning as L.A. has the chance to become the first team to advance to the 2013 MLB playoffs. Check out the live stream link, but first, let's look at the matchup.
It won't be Clayton Kershaw or Zack Greinke on the mound, the Dodgers will hand the ball to their 26-year-old righty, Stephen Fife. After holding a spot in the rotation for a couple of starts in the middle of the season, Fife was recalled in September and he will pitch for the Dodgers tonight.
In September, Fife has made short appearances and things have not gone well. Fife has five innings this month and he's given up seven run on 10 hits and three walks. Either the Dodgers will have to come out swinging or Fife will have to pitch better in this outing. Last night, the Dodgers put up nine runs, hammering away at the D'backs' best pitcher, Patrick Corbin. Tonight, they will try and give Fife run support as they face the veteran Brandon McCarthy, who has struggled all season long.
McCarthy has pitched better in his last two starts, going 1-0 in games pitched against the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies. He earned his win against the Giants after going eight innings of one-run baseball. He walked one hitter and struck out six. In his next start against the Rockies, McCarthy went six innings, allowed two runs on 11 hits, but did not walk a hitter, while striking out two.
The Diamondbacks are trying to avoid a Dodger celebration in their stadium. Win today and Los Angeles is half way done with their season's goal, winning a World Series. The last thing the D'backs want is a division rival to celebrate in their park, but the Dodgers are just one win away from this goal. L.A. has been through a lot in 2013, especially after their horrid start. A win today will take a load off the front office after they spent a lot of dough on acquiring players over the offseason.
