The Los Angeles Lakers officially revealed their new black "Hollywood Nights" themed alternate jerseys on Wednesday, and to say the least they're pretty cool.
The jersey's front features the word "Lakers" and the jersey number are in the classic purple and gold trim. The back of the jersey feature's the player's name in bold purple letter, and also has the same purple and gold trim. The purple and gold trim also runs down the sides as the shorts are a direct match to the top.
A statement from the team was released saying that the new look was a direct result from fan feedback and that the new theme was simply a supplementary look and not a replacement for the traditional designs, and that the name of the jerseys pay homage to the Los Angeles entertainment industry:
"The organization has consistently heard from fans that a black uniform was desired, and have been working to make that a reality for years. The Lakers have a long history and philosophy of listening to fans, and as a public trust are in the business of serving fan interest, from colors of uniforms up to the ultimate goal of winning championships. The purple and gold uniforms will forever be the staple for the Lakers, with the black ones adding what the Lakers hope to be a cool alternative. The Hollywood Nights theme in part acknowledges the celebrities like Jack Nicholson that have long supported the team, but also serves as a nod to the huge number of people that work behind the scenes to make up one of L.A.'s biggest industries."
