The Brooklyn Nets are heading into the 2013-14 season with expectations of making a playoff run and possibly a championship appearance and the health of Deron Williams during that time will be crucial, which is why it could be a concern that he is wearing a walking boot for an ankle injury.

According to ESPN.com, Williams has been in a walking boot after working out over the past month since suffering an ankle injury and he also is dealing with a bone bruise on his right side. The report says that Williams should be ready for the start of training camp in October, but he has had ankle issues in the past and that could be something that comes up later in the season for the team.

Williams is one of the most integral players to the Nets this season, as he is running point for a roster that added Jason Terry, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Andrei Kirilenko and he needs to be healthy for the offense to be at its best. Williams dealt with injuries last season while playing in nearly 80 games and his ankle was an issue at times and it is something the team will continue to monitor as the start of the year gets closer.

Williams was able to get healthier as the season went on and he helped the Nets get into the playoffs as one of the middle seeds and led the team against the Bulls. Chicago was able to pull out the series win in seven games and Williams was one of the main reasons why. He is a near $100-million player for the Nets and he can be a force at the point that can help lead the team to a championship.

The Nets have made plenty of moves this offseason, most notably the trade with the Celtics as well as hiring Jason Kidd as head coach. Last season the team went 49-33 and ranked 17th in points per game and they were very good on defense, ranking sixth in points allowed with under 96 per game.
