The Miami Dolphins are undefeated and confident. The Atlanta Falcons are injured and unsure of the future. The Dolphins have the opportunity to start 3-0 for the first time since 2002. The Falcons are 1-1, a far cry from last season, and hoping to still remain playoff contenders despite losing key starters to injury.
Miami is a playoff team in the making. After beating Indianapolis 24-20 last week, the Dolphins are on the rise. Ryan Tannehill is having a much improved season after the Dolphins stacked up on offensive weapons. Last week he went 23 of 34 in passing for 319 yards and a touchdown to newly signed Mike Wallace. The Dolphins are extremely balanced on offense which is helping to their success. Lamar Miller racked up 69 yards on 14 carries as Miami rushed for 101 yards last week.
The Falcons are headed in the opposite direction. The team has lost Steven Jackson for upwards for 2-4 weeks after the running back sustained a thigh injury last week against St. Louis. Atlanta also lost fullback Bradie Ewing for the season once again. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling are expected to pick up the slack in their absence.
The injuries are racking up for Atlanta. The team has lost Kroy Biermann for the season. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has been placed on injured reserve with designation to return. Tackle Sam Baker has been ruled out with a leg injury. Cornerback Asante Samuel is questionable with a thigh injury. Atlanta is digging deep into their roster in hopes that the younger players can step up and help.
Julio Jones and Matt Ryan are keeping up as one of the best wide receiver-quarterback tandems in the league. Jones has 18 catches for 258 yards on the season. They look more in sync than ever. Atlanta has won the last two meetings against Miami. It will be a tough call to repeat the success on the road.
