The Chicago Bears are 3-0 this season and are sitting alone atop the NFC North after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night and while the team is riding high after three straight victories, the defense took a big blow, as Henry Melton will be out for the season with a torn ACL injury.
According to ESPN.com, Melton will be out for the season with the injury after the Bears feared that he had torn his ACL in the game on Sunday night against the Steelers. The report says that Melton injured his left knee and that the ACL was confirmed torn and that he will get surgery, keeping him out for the rest of the season. Melton was one of the top players for the team on the defensive line and now he is done and despite the Bears winning 40-23 to improve to 3-0, they will have to regroup on defense.
The report says Melton left the game early in the fourth quarter after falling while mixing it up with a Steelers player and during the game he showed why he is one of the Bears' top players, as he recovered a fumble that helped set up a scoring drive. The Steelers made a slight comeback in the game, but now they are 0-3 along with the Giants, Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings and the team could be in for another bad season after not getting what they wanted out of the offense on Sunday night.
Melton was hit with the franchise tag heading into the 2013 campaign and now he will have to figure out what's next after he recovers and it is a big blow for the Bears, as they like being strong up front on defense. Melton dealt with a concussion in the preseason and now he is gone after being the second-most sack getter in the league since back in 2011 according to ESPN.com.
