The NBA is expected to announce Wednesday that New York will be the hosting ground for the All-Star Game in 2015.
The annual event is expected to be divided between the Knicks and Nets, who will hold events in both Manhattan and in Brooklyn.
Sources with knowledge of the announcement said that the actual game would take place at Madison Square Garden and that many of the weekend's other events-such as the slam dunk contest, 3-point shooting contest and the skills challenge-are to be held at the Barclays Center.
According to the New York Times, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is expected to be at the news conference Wednesday alongside Commissioner David Stern and Silver. The Knicks' owner, James L. Dolan, and Bruce C. Ratner, a Nets minority owner and the developer of Barclays Center, will also be there.
The announcement of the news comes on the heels of the intensified rivalry between the Knicks and Nets on and off the court. It's definitely grown more this summer with the Nets acquiring of Paul Pierce, a Knicks tormentor throughout his career when he played with the Boston Celtics.
After coming to the Nets Pierce spoke of his hatred for the Knicks and predicted that the Nets would be the better New York team.
Knicks guard J.R. Smith soon later responded to Pierce's comments by brushing them off saying that the Knicks would be the ones to hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy at the seasons end.
