Follow the score of the San Francisco 49ers as they face the St. Louis Rams in Week 4's Thursday Night Football game. It is the opener for a new football week and both NFC West rivals will be going for their second wins of the year. Who will officially take second place in the division? The 49ers are struggling and that is noticeable by the way the team can't score any points. If somebody told you that San Francisco would only score 10 points in back-to-back games, you would probably call them a liar or run them to the psychiatric ward. However, the only thing crazy about Weeks 2 and 3 has been the way the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts have played defense.
The 49ers' superstar quarterback, (he might only be in his first full season now, but Kaerpernick put up amazing numbers last season, therefore he is a superstar) Colin Kaepernick had another feeble performance in Week 3. The Colts held him to 150 yards and for the second straight game, Kaepernick went the entire game without throwing a touchdown, fumbling the ball and throwing an interception. The Colts even did a great job preventing Kaepernick from rushing as the 25-year-old finished with only 20 yards on the ground.
The question for the Rams; Can they too stop the 49ers aerial and rushing talents. With Frank Gore and Anquan Boldin, the 49ers have experienced offensive players. However, they have to wonder how healthy Vernon Davis truly is. The 49ers can give the Rams a lot of trouble, but it will be interesting to know if the 49ers have enough weapons to keep the Rams defense off balance.
The Rams do not really present a defensive challenge, having allowed 288 yards per game over the air, which is 23rd in the league. They also allow over 100 yards rushing per game. The Rams defense will have to be active and if they get to Kaepernick, they better bring him down or else it will be a foot race to the end zone. Kaepernick is 1-0 when he does not throw an interception, 0-2 when he does get intercepted, so that's a sign to the Rams' secondary; if they want to win this game, they better keep up with the 49ers' defenders.
Sam Bradford is all the Rams have on offense that is somewhat stellar. Bradford has blugged his name in between Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger in the yards thrown category in 2013. He's eighth in the league with 891 passing yards, while sitting between Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees fourth for touchdown passes with six. With no Aldon Smith in the 49ers defensive line, Bradford will have more opportunities to look down field.
