The NFL season is now into Week 5 after the Saints and Dolphins did battle on Monday night football and with some fantasy football owners scrambling after injuries, some players that could step up for Santonio Holmes this week includes Marlon Brown, Austin Pettis, Robert Woods and Justin Blackmon.
According to ESPN.com, the Jets will be without Santonio Holmes for multiple games after he suffered a hamstring injury and now it means that two seasons in a row the WR has dealt with injury issues. Last season he was lost for the year in the game against the 49ers and in a selfish play, he tossed away the ball he had in his hands while not being touched, allowing the 49ers to return the fumble for a touchdown. He was right near the sidelines and easily could have tossed it that way.
Holmes is now out for at least two or more games and to make up for it the Jets brought in David Nelson, but fantasy owners should look elsewhere for replacements, with solid options being Marlon Brown, Austin Pettis, Robert Woods and Justin Blackmon. The Jets are thin at the position with Jeremy Kerley and Clyde Gates and now Brown comes in after making 94 catches and eight touchdowns with the Bills from the 2010 season through last year before he was released.
Holmes was making a comeback from his injury last season and with Stephen Hill dealing with a concussion, the Jets had to make a move. Holmes had not done much this season, although he had a big game against the Bills, catching five passes for over 150 yards and touchdown, but the other three games were less productive. He leaves after making 10 catches for 243 yards and now Nelson will try and make up for that production.
Woods is looking like a nice option in deeper leagues after last week's game, as he has steadily increased his production, making four catches for a season-high 80 yards against the Ravens while also scoring a TD. Woods would have had two if he was able to control another pass from EJ Manuel and the two appear to have a nice connection and now he has 11 catches this season for over 200 yards.
Marlon Brown, Pettis and Blackmon could be nice options as well, as Blackmon has been targeted 25 times over the past two weeks and has scored touchdowns while gaining 79 yards in each of those games. Pettis was the top target last week for the Rams with five catches for 59 yards and he has already scored two TDs this season.
