The New York Knicks are coming into the 2013 season with high expectations and with training camps going on around the NBA, the focus has been on Carmelo Anthony and what he can do to bring a championship back to the Big Apple.
Anthony had praise for coach Mike Woodson at the start of camp and after making it through one round of the playoffs last season before losing to the Indiana Pacers, the team is ready to make a deeper run and that comes after signings of players like Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih. According to ESPN.com, the Knicks are continuing to build their roster and their training camp depth, as they signed Ike Diogu and also brought in Chris Douglas-Roberts to participate in camp.
The report says that the Knicks signed Diogu last week and there is a chance that he could make the team after signing a non-guaranteed deal on a one-year contract. The team already has 12 players on guaranteed deals and with a number of spots open for the team heading into the season, Douglas-Roberts or Diogu could make it if they impress Woodson and new general manager Steve Mills in camp.
Diogu has been out of the league for a couple seasons and the last time he played it was with the Spurs back in the 2012 season and during his career he has also played for the Warriors, Clippers, Blazers and Pacers, averaging six points during that time. He could add some solid depth to the end of the bench and with the team bringing in a number of players for camp, it could be hard for him to distinguish himself.
ESPN.com also reported that the Knicks looked into possibly signing Jason Collins this offseason, as they wanted to get some more depth behind Tyson Chandler. The team has Kenyon Martin and Cole Aldrich and they may want to add some more depth, but obviously signing Collins never went down. So far Collins has not had much interest and the Knicks are heading into the season after winning 50 games last year and now they will try and do even better this season.
