The Aaron Hernandez murder case will be back in court next week and with a host of new charges coming against his cousin Tanya Singleton and his girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins, the lawyer for his fiancé has accused the prosecution of overreaching.
According to Pro Football Talk, Jenkins' lawyer has accused the state over "overreaching" in their charges against Jenkins, saying that they have been "abusive" and that there is not enough evidence against her to support the charges of perjury. The charge against Jenkins could result in a 20 year sentence or even a life sentence since it is a murder trial, but lawyers say that the state has been acting in an improper fashion.
The report says that her lawyer Janice Bassil feels that the state is overreaching on purpose to leverage the charges against her to compel her to testify against Hernandez. Her lawyer said that Jenkins testified in the case in front of the grand jury and that one reason the state is pushing charges against her is because their other witnesses are falling apart. Accomplice Carlos Ortiz was expected to be the main witness in the case, but with him changing up his story from what was previously reported, things could be falling apart for the state.
Jenkins so far has remained out of the public eye and with more charges coming for Singleton, Ortiz as well as another accomplice in Ernest Wallace, the state is doing all it can to try and get witnesses against Hernandez. The case is moving forward next week and a trial date could be set for the fall of next year and depending on what happens with Jenkins, she could be facing jail time.
