The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers are rivals for the fact that they are both in the NFC West division, but the animosity between the two teams runs much deeper than that, as coaches Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh have beef that runs back to their days in the Pac-12 and now it's playing out in the personnel department.
According to ESPN.com, the Seattle Seahawks claimed quarterback BJ Daniels from the 49ers, as the team placed him on waivers so that they could "stash" him on their practice squad after signing John Skelton, since Harbaugh has said he likes him as a player. This may be in response to the 49ers pulling a similar move, as the Seahawks previously put Chris Harper through the same process to get him on their practice squad, with the 49ers signing him instead.
This game has been playing out between the two teams for some time and now there will be some added spice to their next matchup after the Seahawks defeated the 49ers at home two weeks ago. The report says that the Hawks claimed the former seventh round draft pick from the 49ers and released a linebacker to make room for him.
ESPN.com reports that the 49ers like Daniels a great deal and that they wanted to keep him on their practice squad, but obviously now that can't happen. Harbaugh previously said that the team "has a plan" for Daniels and he may have been groomed to be the backup of the future for Colin Kaepernick. The Seahawks play the Colts this week on the NFL schedule and the next time Seattle and San Francisco play will be in Week 14 on FOX in the Bay Area.
