The Texas Longhorns are having themselves quite the tough season in the headlines and after losing two of their last three games and not looking impressive in a win last week against Kansas State, the team will play against Iowa State on Thursday night in an ESPN game that will go live on TV at 7:30 pm.
The team has had to deal with rumors about head coach Mack Brown and with their athletic director stepping down in the future, there could be big changes ahead for the school and the team. Starting on Thursday there will also be changes, as quarterback David Ash will not be starting or making the trip with the team, leaving his future up in the air and leaving Case McCoy to start the game for the Longhorns.

The Longhorns have not looked impressive this season against established opponents and apart from a 56-7 win over New Mexico State, things have not gone all that well for Mack Brown and company. The team pulled off a 31-21 win over the Wildcats last week to get started in the Big 12 the right way and now they will try to improve to 2-0 in the conference. The issues at quarterback have been trouble for the team and with Ash out, the brother of former QB Colt McCoy will get the nod to start against Iowa State on Thursday night.
Ash has had an up and down season in 2013, missing the Ole Miss game and tossing seven touchdowns with two interceptions this season with over 700 yards passing. Brown has not been happy with the way the offense has performed and now McCoy will get his shot against Iowa State. Ash played well in the victory over New Mexico State to open the season, but that was his only 300-yard passing game and since then he has tossed just three touchdown passes, including one in the win over Kansas State.
McCoy has played in every game this season for stretches and in his most productive game he went 24 of 36 for 196 yards and one touchdown against Ole Miss and now he will have the chance to improve on those numbers. McCoy passed for 59 yards against Kansas State and if he plays well, it could mean the end for Ash as the starting quarterback for Texas and more questions will come up about his role on the team since he did not make the trip to play against the Cyclones.
Texas is ranked 36th in the nation this season with 272 yards per game in the air and the team is ranked 37th in rushing yards per game with over 200 on the ground. The team has put up some nice totals, but they have a tough stretch of games coming up and the defense has not played up to par, allowing 40 or more points in two of the last three games and ranking 78th in the nation with an average of nearly 30 points allowed per contest.
Jaxon Shipley and Jonathan Gray have been the most consistent players on offense for the team and Gray will get a healthy dose of action on Thursday, as he leads the team with 350 rushing yards and three touchdowns this season. Texas has a tough schedule heading through the rest of the season and fans should be troubles that they have two losses already.
After playing Ole Miss, K-State and Iowa State, the team will have a big game in the Red River Shootout with Oklahoma and then they will play on the road against TCU. The team also has games against West Virginia and Baylor on the road.
