The Buffalo Bills suffered a tough loss against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night football and after dropping the game, the team decided to lay some blame on the special teams, as they cut punter Shawn Powell after having some early season struggles.
According to ESPN.com, the Bills decided to cut Powell after he had issues in the game getting the ball away from Travis Benjamin, who had a field day on Thursday while returning one punt 80-yards for a touchdown and putting together nearly 180 yards total on returns in the game. The team had been upset with Powell's performance all season and the Thursday performance came after he had trouble against the Ravens in Week 4.
The report says that Powell did not put up great stats against Cleveland, not putting on punt inside the 20-yard line while putting up a terrible 23.1 yards-per-punt net. Powell knew he was on shaky ground and now he is out of a job. Chris Kluwe was cut by the Oakland Raiders earlier in the season before the schedule picked up and now he could possibly be an option for the Bills.
The team is 2-3 this season and has now alternated losses and wins since the start of the year, losing to the Patriots, defeating the Panthers, losing to the NY Jets, winning against the Ravens and now losing to the Browns. Kluwe was cut in favor of Marquette King and he could be a veteran option for the Bills.
