The Red Sox will have their ace, Jon Lester, on the hill. He will try to duplicate his regular season performance, preferably for the Red Sox and their fans, the second half of his season. In his last 10 starts, Lester finished 5-2 with a 2.19 ERA. The last four came against division rivals and he went 2-0 when allowing just two earned runs in 15 innings pitched while striking out 13.
Lester faced the Rays four times in 2013 and he was pretty dominant, going 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA. Most of the damage came in his third start against the Rays, where he surrendered seven earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched. In his other three games combined, he allowed a total of five earned runs in 20.1 innings pitched.
The Rays will send their dominant lefty, Matt Moore, who amazed in his first career playoff start in 2011. He dazzled in 2013, posting a 17-4 record along with a 3.29 ERA in 27 starts. In his last 10 regular season starts, though missing the entire month of August, Moore went 6-1 with a 2.79 ERA.
Against the Red Sox, Moore has been absolutely dominant. They can call him their daddy, echoing the infamous words of former Red Sox ace, Pedro Martinez. In two starts this season, Moore is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA, surrendering only three earned runs in 15 innings pitched against the division rivals.
It should be a good one at Fenway Park today as the Red Sox and Rays look to get off on the right foot in the ALDS.
