It will be rookies, Julio Teheran vs. Hyun-Jin Ryu. Both guys were amazing in 2013, providing both of their teams more than expected. Teheran was a pure rookie, having only started four games prior to becoming a part of the Braves' pitching rotation. Ryu, though super experienced in Korea, was a risk as a lot of Asian pitchers have not been able to adequately transfer success to the majors.
Teheran finished with a 14-8 record and a 3.20 ERA. Though he struggled in the final month of the year, allowing a total of 12 earned runs in 24.1 innings pitched, he finished September with a 3-1 record, helping the Braves successful clinch a division in a time when they were struggling to win games.
If you're a Dodgers' fan, you love watching Ryu take the ball in Game 3. He might be making his first postseason start, but Ryu was pretty consistent in his first season in the majors, going 14-8, like Teheran, with a 3.00 ERA. He did not have as much luck as Teheran in September, though he pitched very well. Ryu allowed only eight earned runs in 25 innings pitched for a 2.88 ERA.
Dodgers' fans should be excited to see Ryu on the mound after his performance against the Braves in two starts this season. Everybody saw how foolish the Braves looked against left-handed pitching and Ryu is a tough lefty. In his two starts against the Braves in 2013, he does not have any wins to show for his grea outings, but he has a 2.13 ERA after allowing only three earned runs in 12.2 innings pitched.
Braves' fans should be excited because they have a young, talented pitcher on the mound. Though he has never pitched in the postseason, the Dodgers have not seen him and this should give Teheran an advantage coming into the game.
