The Heat are fresh off a victory over the Atlanta Hawks. It was a close one as the Heat set off to start putting the finishing touches before the beginning of the 2013 season where they will defend their back-to-back titles.
In their first game, it was all Chris Bosh putting on the moves and destroying the Hawks in the paint. LeBron James did what he had to do to put his team on top, hitting 4-11 shots, scoring nine points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing five assists. Bosh finished with the game-high, 21 points. Bosh was on fire from everything on the floor. He went 6-6 from the free throw line and hit a three, finishing the night 7-8 from the floor in 20 minutes played.
Trying to make a statement out of the Heat's bench was Roger Mason Jr. He finished with 14 points as he is looking to find a consistent home after bouncing around the NBA in his 11 year career. He looked more line Ray Allen, hitting 3-4 from downtown, while collecting a team high six rebounds in the preseason opener.
The Heat face a Pistons team that also picked up a win against the foreigners, Haifa Maccabi Haifa. The new-look Pistons have Chauncey Billups and Brandon Jennings running their offense, with Josh Smith as good backup. It was Andre Dummond, their center, who led the way with 17 points, getting help from Charlie Villanueva and Kyle Singler from the bench, each finishing with 11 points in their preseason opener.
Will the Pistons truly compete in 2013? They will try to make some noise in the preseason and, hopefully, for the Motor City and the NBA, there can be diversity and new competition could arise.
