The Detroit Tigers travel to the Coliseum to face the Oakland Athletics in Game 5 of the ALDS. These two teams will once again matchup to conclude the most exciting series in the 2013 postseason, thus far. Check out the live stream available online at 8 p.m. ET
The Tigers have scored 14 runs in this series. The A's have scored 15 runs. This would explain why this series has been so tight. All games have been settled by three runs or less, two of which, were decided by one run.
The performance has been disappointing for the Tigers because they are expected to defend their American League title in 2013. However, with the Boston Red Sox blazing as the best team in baseball this season and their immediate problem, the A's, the Tigers are looking very shaky and their World Series run is in jeopardy.
Standing in their way is the A's hit or miss lineup and 22-year-old rookie, Sonny Gray. The A's have scored 12 runs in the last two games, as Coco Crisp is bringing the lineup to life. They might strikeout a lot, but the A's have been making contact in the last two days.
Last season, the Tigers won with Justin Verlander on the mound. He took the ball in Game 5 and closed out the series, sending the Tigers to the ALCS against the New York Yankees. This year, the Tigers have the fire power, the question is, will Game 2's Verlander show up tonight or will the struggling Verlander ruin things for the Tigers' postseason and World Series hopes?
The Athletics are due a championship series appearance, but they will surely need discipline and patience when stepping up to the plate against one of baseball's most complete pitchers.
