Oct 12, 2013 05:43 PM EDT

The Stanford Cardinal are a sexy pick for the national championship this season in college football and the team under head coach David Shaw has given plenty of reasons why, as they are one of the most balanced teams in the country and now they will travel for a road game at Rice-Eccles Stadium against Utah on Saturday at 6 pm in game that will be on the Pac-12 Network on television.

The Cardinal are playing very solid and escaped a close win last week against Washington after the Huskies played a great game and now the team is 5-0 on the season with a huge game against UCLA coming up, but they can't afford to overlook the Utes and that could be a very tough game on Saturday. The team opened the season with a nice win against San Jose State and then against Army, but after a closer game against the Sun Devils they blew out the Cougars in Washington State before playing against the Huskies. The team now travels to play against Utah before the Bruins home game and the matchup will be on TV starting at 6 pm.

The team has a tough second half schedule and if the team is a national title contender, they will earn it, as they have a home game that will be nationally televised against the Bruins and then they will play on the road against Oregon State, which is always tough up in the Pacific Northwest. The team then has a huge matchup at home with the Oregon Ducks on a Thursday ESPN game that could help decide the Pac-12 this season and since both teams likely will be in the top five, it will have huge national implications for whoever loses the game.

The team then has a road matchup against the USC Trojans and then will be home to finish the season against California and Notre Dame in what could be another big game. The team is ranked 98th in passing and 33rd in rushing yards per game and the team has over 200 rushing yards per game is scoring nearly 40 points per game this season. The team has looked very good on offense and they will be going up against a Utah team that is givin up over 25 points per game. The team is averaging nearly 200 yards per game on the ground and that could be tough to stop.

The team just lost to the Bruins last week after defeating BYU and losing in OT to Oregon State and then the team will be playing two games on the road against the Arizona Wildcats and the USC Trojans after playing Stanford. The road game starts a stretch of four away games in five weeks against Arizona, USC, Oregon and Washington State with Arizona State sandwiched in. The game against Stanford will be at 6 pm and will be on the Pac-12 Network.
