Baseball fans will have approximately 30 minutes of peace before an annoying family member or friend begins to switch the channels, back and forth, as Sunday Night Football will give the ALCS a run for its money tonight. However, it should be another great pitchers duel between the Red Sox and the Tigers as two of this year's best winners hit the field at Fenway Park.
During the regular season, Clay Buchholz and Max Scherzer held some of the best winning percentages among starting pitchers. With a 12-1 record in 16 starts, Buchholz posted a .923 winning percentage in 2013. Scherzer, took home the prize as far as winning percentage. He made 32 starts in 2013, winning 21 games, while losing three. His winning percentage led the league, .875. He made more starts than Buchholz, which is why he is considered the leader.
Both pitchers have the ability to record strikeouts and put goose eggs on the scoreboard, which should make for another great pitchers' duel. Batters might have a hard time getting anything good to hit, so they will have to take advantage of mistakes these pitchers make, though there likely will not be many.
David Ortiz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia will have to find a way to be aggressive, while at the same time prevent from swinging at bad stuff. They might be outmatched, but if they can see pitches and run Scherzer's pitch count, they will have a chance to face the Tigers' bullpen early in the game.
The Tigers have to continue getting guys on base in front of Jhonny Peralta, who has been an impossible out for the opposition.
Do not miss the 2013 ALCS Game 2 as the Red Sox and Tigers while battle live on FOX at 8 p.m. ET.
