The Dodgers hitting has been completely off in this series. They are hitting a measly .184 in the NLCS with 24 strikeouts, trailing only the Boston Red Sox, who have been K'd 32 times in the League Championship Series. The Dodgers have 14 hits, but they have not been able to manufacture runs. Ironically, the Cardinals have a lower batting average than the Dodgers in the first two games of the series. First, it was Carlos Beltran, twice striking for the Cardinals in Game 1. He smacked a double deep to center field that Andre Ethier was unable to retrieve. Then in the bottom of the 13th, Beltran drove in the winning run, which gave the Cardinals the 3-2 victory. Less than 15 hours later, the Cardinals and Dodgers met for Game 2 and it was another pitchers' duel, this time with Clayton Kershaw allowing just one run, which was all the Cardinals needed to win Game 2. Jon Jay hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the only run of the game.
The Cardinals and Dodgers have matched very well, with the advantage going to all four pitchers in the mound. They have all pitched well enough to give their team a win, but the Dodgers have not capitalized, which is why the Cardinals are up in this series.
They will need Yasiel Puig to remain patient and Adrian Gonzalez to drive in those guys at the top of the order. Hanley Ramirez has yet to be announced active or inactive for Game 3 as he is dealing with a rib injury. The Cardinals remain perfectly healthy, which should give them a huge advantage as the series progresses.
