Kevin Garnett has a lot of confidence in the Brooklyn Nets newly redesigned roster. He had confidence in the team before getting traded and has kept the same beliefs after being added. To explain, in initial trade talks between the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets to acquire Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, there was a package that included sending Reggie Evans to the Celtics in exchange for the three stars. Garnett demanded this idea be shot down as the veteran would not go to Brooklyn is Evans was not on the team.
"I won't go into specific details of what I was wanting and dislikes and everything else when it came to building the business of basketball," Garnett said, via Newsday. "But I will say this: One of the key things for me was not only Paul (Pierce) and 'Jet' (Jason Terry) coming here with me to make it comfortable, but Reggie Evans had to be on the roster. That was a huge key for me coming here."
Evans is the kind of player that Garnett truly respects. He is not afraid to get a little dirty and aggressive and he goes the extra mile to make sure the little things are done correctly. Evans notes that he and Garnett have always clicked and operate under the beliefs.
"Me and KG, we're just clicking," Evans said. "We are just taking advantage of this moment, and taking advantage of it is winning a championship. Sometimes you've got to do the little stuff, always talking to each other, communicating with each other and stuff like that."
Evans will play just as big of a role in the Nets game plan as Garnett will. The forward will backup Garnett and fill in when the veteran's minutes are limited. Evans will help in the defensive movement Garnett is trying to create in Brooklyn. He believes if everyone plays their parts well, the Nets will rank in the top 10 for defensive units in the league.
"I think we can be anything we want to be," Garnett said. "But understand, defense is the hardest thing about this game. And I explained that to the guys here. When you're trying to win, one of the hardest things to do is defend, and you have to be [one of the top teams in the league at it] at it."
Garnett has had plenty of praise for his new team and teammates. The forward has been showering center Brook Lopez with compliments, noting he might be one of the best in the league at his position. The Nets will take on the Celtics in a pregame matchup, one Garnett is expected to sit as head coach Jason Kidd limits his preseason action.
