The Indianapolis Colts are coming off of a loss on Monday night football in Week 6 to the San Diego Chargers and one reason for that some think is because the team was looking ahead to Week 7, when the much anticipated return of Peyton Manning comes to Indy as the Denver Broncos visit for Sunday night football.
This game was looked at as one of the most exciting on the schedule when it was released, as it will mark the official return of Peyton Manning to the team he helped build, as the Colts host the Broncos at Lucas Oil Stadium for the NBC Game on Sunday. The game will feature an honor for Manning from the Colts and Jim Irsay and the owner spoke about the game to USA Today, saying that while he loved having Manning as their quarterback, one reason he decided to make the move they did was to try and get a young quarterback to chase championships.
Irsay said that the individual achievements were great, but that he wanted more championships from the 11 times that they made the playoffs. Some have said that the Colts on Monday night were distracted looking ahead to the Broncos, which may have contributed to Coby Fleener and Reggie Wayne dropping balls, but either way the game on Sunday night should be one of the most anticipated of the season, especially with the Manning tribute.
The Broncos come into the game at 6-0 and now the colts are 4-2 on the season after losing to the Chargers and if Denver can get pact Indy, they have one more game in Week 8 against the Redskins before hitting their bye in Week 9. The Redskins are just 1-4 on the season after losing to the Dallas Cowboys and a win for the Broncos would make them 8-0 halfway through the season.
There are multiple games in the second half that they could drop and they face five games on the road of the remaining eight, including three of the first four out of the bye. The team has two games against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are currently undefeated, while they also play two against the Chargers and one on the road against the New England Patriots and that could be one of the most anticipated games of the year along with the return to Indy for Manning. The team then finishes the season with two games at home against the Chargers and titans before playing on the road in Week 16 and 17 against the Texans and the Raiders.
